  GABRIEL J. CATANUS

Gabriel J. Catanus, Ph.D.

Scholar & Teacher
After teaching Christian theology and ethics at Loyola University Chicago and Northern Seminary, I am currently serving part-time as Associate Director of both the Paul G. Hiebert Center for World Christianity and Global Theology and the Thriving Immigrant Congregations Initiative (TICI) at Trinity International University. TICI is a 5-year research project supported by the Lilly Endowment.

In December 2020, I received my Ph.D. with Distinction in the Integrative Studies in Ethics and Theology (ISET) from Loyola University Chicago. My research and writing have focused on developing Filipino American contextual theology, social ethics, pastoral and political theologies, and the writings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. I'm a graduate of DePaul University (B.A.) and the divinity school of Trinity International University (M.Div, cum laude), and I had short stints at McCormick Theological Seminary and an unnamed Chicago law school.

Part of my work also includes speaking at conferences and guest lecturing in academic and ecclesial settings. To date, my work has been used in courses at Fuller Theological Seminary, the University of California at Irvine, Yale Divinity School, and Loyola University Chicago.
